20-23rd of November in Berlin
We are pleased to invite you to the upcoming New Network Conference, taking place from November 20–23rd in Berlin, 2026 in the area of Westfälisches Viertel.
This gathering is designed specifically for associated member projects and those projects curious about joining the network. Our primary goal is to deepen our collective capacity for systemic change. Over four days, we will focus on unpacking what it means to build dual power projects.
Purpose
To understand how to build a powerful and durable social movement that fuses 1) long-term capacity building by organising ordinary people around material needs and alternative systems to meet those needs, and 2) potential for rupture by mass mobilisation.
Objectives of the conference
That all participants, who represent their projects:
To understand how to build a powerful and durable social movement that fuses
1) long-term capacity building by organising ordinary people around material needs and alternative systems to meet those needs,
2) building spaces where ordinary people can genuinely participate in decisions and develop collective political power, and
3) potential for rupture by mass mobilisation with an initial focus on internationally coordinated activities on 3rd of July 2027.
OBJECTIVES of the Conference
By the end of the conference, participants
have a clearer understanding of how to integrate mass organising centred on material needs into their strategy and how to combine this with mass mobilisation
are familiar with useful tools for discussing strategy within their organisations
have created relationships and built mutual trust, strengthening their sense of community and international solidarity
have more information about the mobilisation on July 3rd and how they can contribute
Who is invite to join the conference
We welcome all projects that are already implementing a dual-power strategy, as well as all those groups and organisations that agree with the approach set out by the New Network and are curious to find out how best to put the strategy into practice.
Participants (coming as individuals or representatives of their groups) should have prior experience of organising.
Preparing for the conference
To make the most of the live sessions – which are always too short but invaluable opportunities to work together and exchange experiences – we ask you:
to read and analyze recent models of dual power applied in various contexts and compiled in this folder, so that you have a clearer idea of what this might entail and what we would like to learn from them;
to take part in a preparatory online call on 2026-11-08 at 18.00 CET during which we will:
briefly present the aims and agenda of the conference, drawing on the information in this document;
introduce ourselves and get to know one another
discuss dual-power models, with the opportunity to clarify any questions or concerns, comment on them and share other examples that participants have studied and consider significant.
share information about the July 3rd mobilisation
Of course, you are very welcome to bring other case studies. Please write to us (jesper@resilientuprising.org) if you have any other meaningful case studies you’d like to add the folder.
What do we mean with dual power?
The organising of alternative systems for material needs and/or democratic decision making that are independent of the current power holders and used to go in conflict with the current power holders.
One example of dual power could be organising citizen’s assemblies and enacting the decisions of the assemblies through mass mobilisations with the aim of getting legitimacy for a sortition based democracy to replace the current political system.
Another example could be organising tenants to support one another with cooling during heatwaves and engage in rent strikes to push companies who own the apartments to provide climate adaptions. If successful, these tenants can then undertake other forms of non-cooperation with other established power holders.
Programme Overview
Strategic Alignment Through Practice
The strategic principles will be explored through concrete organisational models. Two in-depth presentations will form the core:
Italy Case Study – Data-driven presentation on operational approaches being implemented in the Italian context
United Kingdom Case Study – Parallel exploration of the UK organisational model
These presentations will serve as starting points for facilitated working sessions, where participants identify specific elements adaptable to their own organisations in pursuit of greater strategic coherence.
Community and Network Building
Recognising that sustained movement work depends on community, we are exploring to have dedicated time for:
Understanding what sustains commitment in resistance
Addressing internal dynamics, including countering oppression within the movement
Engaging with people who may hold less progressive views than core activists
Opportunities for informal connection and relationship-building
Network Updates
Progress on the network setup will be reviewed, covering core team coordination, mobilisation efforts, and newly initiated groups and initiatives.
Additional Exploratory Topics
Subject to availability and relevance, sessions may explore:
Religion and organising – examining far-right religious mobilisation and possibilities for progressive religious framing
The current associated projects with the new network is
Revolution 21th Century (UK), Neue Generation (Germany), Fairness Jetzte (Germany), Ultima Generzione (Italy), Ta Tillbaka Framtiden (Sweden), Act Now (Switzerland), Take Back Power (UK), Justice Movement Uganda, Citizens Network for Zambia, Folkets Ting (Denmark)
